Baseball Road Trip

Citi Field (New York) – Nationals Park (Washington) – Oriole Park at Camden Yards (Baltimore) – Citizen’s Bank Park (Philadelphia)

Tickets purchased! In one week we leave for our first baseball road trip. My son and I will visit four major league ballparks in four days. Here’s the plan:

  • Three hour drive down to Citi Field in New York for a 4:10 game on Saturday between the Mets and Rangers.
  • Following the game it’s a two hour drive to stay with my parents in South Jersey for the night.
  • Sunday morning we will take a two and a half hour drive down to Nationals Park in D.C. for a 1:35 game between the Nationals and Marlins.
  • After the game it’s a one hour drive to Baltimore where we’ll stay two nights in a hotel right across the street from Camden Yards.
  • Monday afternoon we will see the Orioles take on the Rangers at 1:05.
  • The rest of the day and Tuesday morning will be spent checking out Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
  • Tuesday afternoon we’ll drive up to Philadelphia with some sightseeing stops along the way.
  • We’ll finish up at Citizen’s Bank Park with a 7:05 matchup between the Phillies and Nationals.
  • Then it’s another night with my parents followed by the four hour drive home on Wednesday morning.

This trip won’t cross any new ballparks off my list, but it has been a while since I’ve been to Nationals Park (10 years) and Camden Yards (25+ years). This will be my son’s first time at both of these ballparks and it will be the first time we’ve gone to games on consecutive days. Hopefully this is just the first of many baseball road trips to come. And I’m still holding onto the possibility of one day doing the ultimate baseball road trip – 30 ballparks in 30 days.

We’re planning some sightseeing in Baltimore and on the way to Philly, but otherwise it’s just the baseball games. So I’m expecting to get to the ballparks early and hopefully catch some batting practice. We should also have plenty of time to check out the unique features of each ballpark. Let me know if you have any recommendations for things to see, do, or eat in and around these ballparks.
