Here’s a list of the podcasts I’m currently listening to. I’ve included a brief description/review of some. I’ll add to this over time, so please check back for updates.

Personal Finance

*****************This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PNG-image-1.pngThis is the best podcast I have found for someone pursuing financial independence. They provide very detailed technical information, but are able to translate to actionable tips you can apply. They feature many great guests and episodes typically run about an hour. Check out the website at choosefi.com.
This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PNG-image-4.pngI’ve listened to over 600 episodes ranging from a few minutes to 3+ hours, with most about an hour. Joshua is a former financial advisor dedicated to using his platform to help others improve their financial lives. He is very knowledgeable and has useful material for nearly every situation. He does get “radical” especially in some of the earlier shows. He sometimes digs deep into technical topics and does not shy away from sharing his personal beliefs. Check out his website at radicalpersonalfinance.com.
This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PNG-image-14.pngThis is a bit lighter than some of the other financial podcasts, but very good for beginners. The host, Scott Alan Turner, has achieved financial independence and seeks to help others on the path. Each episode is about 40 minutes, no guests just Scott and his producer. There are no real commercials, but he does some satirical ads. Check out his website at scottalanturner.com.
This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PNG-image-3.pngThis podcast has been around since 2012. Joe and OG seek to improve financial literacy and spark conversations about money. They bring humor to the discussion to make the topics more approachable, interesting, and fun. They feature weekly roundtables, interviews, and a Friday fin-tech (personal finance technology) segment. Check out their website at stackingbenjamins.com.
This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PNG-image-12.pngTwo best friends talking money and enjoying craft beer. Not super in-depth with the technical details, but good at discussing the basics. Very relatable and lots of good ideas for improving your personal finances. Check out their website at howtomoney.com.
This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PNG-image-13.pngOne of the originals in the Financial Independence Retire Early (FIRE) space. Most episodes feature interviews. He doesn’t post new episodes very frequently these days, but what is available is worth the listen. You can also check out his website at madfientist.com.

History

*****************This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PNG-image-23.pngThis is one of my favorites; Dan Carlin is an amazing storyteller. My first experience with this podcast was his series on the First World War, Blueprint for Armageddon, which is six episodes totaling about 23 hours. He only maintains a small backlog for free, but all episodes are available at dancarlin.com for a small price. There are many months between new episodes, but well worth the wait.
This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PNG-image-25.pngThis is Dan Carlin’s attempt to create shorter and more frequent content. Each episode stands alone and runs less than his typical 4 hour episode. Same concept at Hardcore History and just as entertaining.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PNG-image-21.pngEach season is a new American history story. Most seasons are around seven episodes, bus some are shorter. The narrator immerses the listener in the time and shares the perspective of everyday people who lived through the events. The podcast covers major events including the Cold War, Prohibition, the Space Race, and Civil Rights. It also covers some lesser known events like the Tulsa Race Massacre, the California Water Wars, and the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire.
This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PNG-image-26.pngThis is a dramatic telling of the aftermath of President Lincoln’s assignation centered around Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. Each of 13 episodes features voice actors recreating events from the assassination through the impeachment of Andrew Johnson. Additional episodes provide more historical context and three bonus episodes follow the path of John Wilkes Booth.

Other

*****************This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PNG-image-16.pngI just recently started listening to Joe Rogan. If you’re not familiar he is a comedian, actor, and MMA commentator who hosts a nearly daily podcast. He engages in deep conversations with a diverse range of guests, often lasting over three hours. Be warned, it usually contains adult language and often adult topics. Very highly recommend.
This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PNG-image-27.pngI’ve listened to Lex Fridman on Joe Rogan a few times. Lex is an AI researcher who moved to the US from the Soviet Union at the age of 13. I’ve just started listening to this podcast, but so far seems very interesting. UPDATE: I’ve been listening to both early and recent episodes. The early ones focus on AI and run 1-2 hours. The more recent ones cover more wide-ranging topics and tend to run 2-3 hours.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PNG-image-15.pngHosted by scientist Eric Lander, Brave New Planet is about amazing new technologies that might dramatically improve our world, or, if we don’t make wise choices, could leave us a lot worse off. Includes discussion with many experts and a focus on how this generation’s choices will shape the future as never before. Only seven episodes. It leans a little to the left at times, but overall gives a fair treatment of the topics and is very thought provoking.
